Tmnt “fan”:”oh my god you poor thing. You’re brothers are SO abusive towards you!”
Mikey:”…
Can I smack them?”
Raph:”yes”
Leo:”no! They’re still a fan so we need to be professional”
“Fan”:”and you’re father is even more abusive like of my gosh he made you all child soldiers that’s just awful”
Leo:”…
Ok maybe you can”
This is especially funny when you consider the fact that 2012 Splinter didn't even want to send the boys out from day 1 and literally had nightmares after their run-in with Shredder. And Rise Splinter was so against the boys putting themselves in danger that he didn't even train them properly when danger came knocking at the door lol.
Meanwhile 2003 Splinter is like, "we must find the Shredder and avenge my owner," like 5 minutes after the boys got thrown off the roof by him-
I like to think of it more like, he was against them FACING the Shredder, and was totally not cool with these boys going into danger like this, but once they were all face to face and he couldn't tell his boys to stop he just went "FUCK IT, we're already here, my boys are dumb, let's go"
Oh yeah that’s 100% what it was, it’s not as though he intended to throw them into a ring of fire with the guy lol. Most of the 2003 series really is just Splinter’s fur becoming more grey everytime he finds his sons in a predicament.
The guy literally told his sons to stay away from the surface as kids but they went anyway.
I’m so here for 2012 Mikey actually being a huge genius he just has extreme information processing issues. Doesn’t help that his family likely has no idea how to help a visual/interactive learner like him so any alternate methods of learning that would be present in public schooling wouldn’t really be available to him
Anyways this spawned out of the idea of Donnie showing him some anatomy textbooks about different muscle groups thinking he’d just get grossed out and leave but then Mikey grabbed a pen and pencil and started drawing his own little notes and fun charts and comes up with his own fun little mnemonics for them and now Mikey has somehow memorized every muscle in the back (there’s a lot) and has them memorized by nickname, what they do, and something called the “pully wully scale” and now Donatello is screaming inside because Holy Shit Mikey HOW did it take this long to learn he was an interactive learner-
In all honesty it doesn’t help that 2012 Donatello is just NOT good at using laymen’s terminology. There’s a time and place for scientific jargon. To be fair it’s also not a natural thing to know how to talk in ways everyone understands, it’s a learnable SKILL that often has to be taught. It’s hard to “dumb down” an advanced research paper to terms that make sense to people who aren’t experts in the topic. It takes a lot of intuition to take seemingly “simple” topics and elaborate on them- for example, try explaining a meme. Even to a very intelligent person, if they don’t know a Lot about how meme culture works even the most obvious memes could make zero fucking sense.
I’ve always been fascinated by the way scientific articles can be completely nonsensical to a friend until I break it down into much easier terms and much more typical phrases. It’s hard! It takes practice and a lot of knowledge on how language works
No keep rambling🍿
I don’t think it’s that Donnie isn’t good at using laymen’s terminology (at least not so bad to the point that he’d be considered “bad” at it), because he’s been shown to explain things in a way everyone will easily understand without being asked or told to. I think it’s more like he either gets too caught up in his speeches or just doesn’t want to make it easier on everyone else because that’s his comfort zone. In one issue of the 2012 comics, Donnie and Raph get into a bit of an argument over Donnie’s intelligence, and Donnie realizes halfway through it that Raph kind of gets put off by all the science talk because it makes him feel dumb for not always understanding what his brother is talking about. And Raph realizes Donnie isn’t trying to make him feel dumb, he just really likes talking about science and technology, even if his family doesn’t always understand him. He just likes having someone listen to him.
Also I will die standing on the “Mikey was never dumb, he’s a genius built different from the rest” hill. He clearly learns things by a different process than what is typically considered normal. Like when he and Raph were looking for Casey after his fight with Tiger Claw, he casually told Raph they can just bounce their locator signals off the satellite and triangulate the signals with the position of Casey’s T-Phone. But the only reason he knows how to do that is because of the time he spent tracking the pizza delivery guy. Of course there are plenty of other instances throughout the series, but you get it lol.
Bruh I just finished Sonic Prime S1 (a.k.a., poorly disguised part 1) and I’m shook, like, I already knew about some S2 stuff so the finale wasn’t much of a surprise, but it still had me doing cartwheels, how did y'all survive that cliffhanger😭
I'm rewatching the 2012 tmnt after I binged rottmnt and I don't know if it's the new fascination with Donnie/Leo twin dynamic talking but I feel like if anyone has a twin dynamic in 2012 tmnt it's Leo and Raph.
They even look the most alike head-shape-wise out of all the turtles and both look older than Donnie and Mikey with their features being a bit sharper.
Both of them also act like older siblings a lot, looking out for their brothers. They're also arguably the closest to one another, despite fighting the most often. (They also repeatedly fight over who should be the leader.) Raph was the most distraught about leaving Leo in the season 1 finale.
Idk they just both have clashing oldest brother energy. Feel free to add for or against my take, I can't form my thoughts properly.
I can’t properly form my thoughts either but I’ll give it a shot lol-
It’s definitely arguable who’s closest to who because they all behave differently with each other when paired up, but Leo and Raph are definitely the ones with the most twin-like dynamic of the quad, which I think mainly has to do with Leo being the natural overseer of the brothers and being the only one Raph looks up to to some extent aside from Splinter.
They’re much more headstrong and stubborn about their decisions than anyone else, they’re most likely to tease the others together, they reel the team back in when things start to get out of control or when they start to deviate from the mission at hand, they spar the most (together and apart), they often question their positions on the team and sometimes get reassurance from each other, the list goes on.
There are so many specific moments I can pick out between them, but I’ll refrain from doing that because I’d inevitably spoil stuff for op (they’re only up to S2).
